As someone who lost the Matriarchs of my family, within a three year time frame and just before my 30th birthday. I've experienced the withdrawal and isolation that sometimes tends to occur when the grieving process begins, and this is how I really recognize how important it is to embrace my culture and community. The two main reasons I have a business today is because my mom wore a jewelry set i made for her and her friend wanted to know where she can get a set, the other reason is my mom suggested me to someone she knew needed someone they could trust to help with organizing paperwork, and filling out documents online without having to spend thousands on multiple services. Just like that, I had a side gig while I was going back to school. I unfortunately experienced a series of terrible events and medical challenges which stopped my education and career goals for some time, but with time I began to be able to do part time gigs and projects. With that I hope to find a long lasting pain management and therapy plan, so I can complete my education goals and work a full-time career.
What does the indigenous culture have to do with me?
I'm a current member of Salt River First Nation #195, same as my Mother and Grandmother (who was a residential school survivor), my Father, was part of the East Prairie Metis Settlement.
